BAKFlip G2 Hard Folding Tonneau Cover for Toyota Tacoma

★★★★★4.8· thousands of reviews

Our BAKFlip G2 gives your Tacoma the perfect balance of security and instant bed access. The hard-panel design folds completely open in seconds, stacking neatly behind the cab so you can haul full-size cargo without removing the cover.

We built the G2 with aircraft-grade aluminum panels that handle up to 300 lbs of evenly distributed weight when closed. The matte finish resists scratches and UV damage while maintaining your truck's clean factory lines. Installation takes about an hour with basic hand tools and requires zero drilling into your Tacoma bed.

The integrated rail system sits flush with your bed rails, preserving your truck's aerodynamics and fuel efficiency. Each of the 10 aluminum slats locks independently, so you can secure front sections while keeping rear access open for longer items.

Aluminum Panel Construction & Weather Protection

We manufacture every G2 panel from aircraft-grade aluminum that won’t rust, crack, or warp through years of daily driving. The powder-coated matte finish resists UV rays and maintains its appearance without polishing or special treatments.

Each panel connects with reinforced aluminum hinges that pivot smoothly through tens of thousands of open-close cycles. We engineer the hinge points with stainless steel hardware that won’t corrode in rain, snow, or coastal salt spray.

Installation & Bed Rail Fit for Tacoma Models

Our clamp-on installation system fits your Tacoma’s factory bed rails without drilling holes or applying adhesives. The adjustable clamps slide along the integrated rail channels, letting you position them precisely for your specific bed length.

We include all mounting hardware and detailed instructions that walk you through the complete installation in 45 to 60 minutes. You’ll need basic hand tools including a ratchet set, Allen wrenches, and an adjustable wrench.

Folding Design & Bed Access

The G2’s 10-section folding design gives you multiple access configurations depending on what you’re hauling. Fold the first two panels for quick access to tools and gear near the tailgate. Open all four sections to stack the entire cover behind your cab, creating full bed access for lumber, furniture, or ATVs.

Each panel section releases with a pull of the integrated latch handle—no separate keys or tools required when you’re loading cargo at a job site. The panels lock automatically when you fold them closed and push down on the final section.

Perfect fit on my 2019 Tacoma
I installed this on my 2019 Tacoma 6-foot bed in about 50 minutes following the instructions. The clamps adjust easily and the cover sits perfectly flush with the bed rails. No drilling required, which was important to me since I lease my truck.

Way better than my old soft cover
I upgraded from a soft roll-up cover and the G2 is night and day better. The aluminum panels feel solid and the folding design gives me way more access options. I can fold just the back section for groceries or open the whole thing when I haul plywood.

Holds up great in Colorado winters
We've had heavy snow and ice for two winters now and the G2 hasn't shown any issues. The panels don't flex or crack like I worried they might. Snow slides right off and the seals still keep water out of my bed.

Great quality, minor adjustment needed
The cover itself is excellent quality and looks fantastic on my Tacoma. I had to adjust the clamps a bit tighter after the first week as things settled, but after that it's been rock solid. Worth the investment over cheaper covers.

Love the flush look
I wanted something low-profile that didn't look bulky, and the G2 nails it. It adds maybe 3 inches above my bed rails and keeps that clean factory appearance. My buddies with plastic covers are jealous of how this looks.

Easy to use every day
I open and close this thing multiple times a day for work and it's always smooth. The latches grab automatically when I close it, so I don't fumble with locks while holding tools. Exactly what I needed for a work truck.

Good to know

BAKFlip G2 Tacoma Owner Questions

Yes, the G2 clamp system accommodates most spray-in and drop-in bed liners. The clamps adjust to grip bed rails up to 10 mm wider than factory specifications, which covers the added thickness from popular liners like LINE-X and Rhino Lining.

If you have an over-rail bed liner that extends above your bed rails, you'll need to remove or trim those sections where the G2 clamps mount. Contact our fit specialists if you're unsure about your specific liner compatibility.

We don't recommend driving with the G2 in a partially folded position. The aerodynamic forces at highway speeds can stress the hinges and potentially damage the panels if they're not fully closed or fully stacked.

For highway driving, either close and latch all panels completely or fold the cover all the way open so it stacks behind your cab with the support struts engaged. These positions are engineered to handle wind forces safely at any legal highway speed.

The G2 supports up to 300 lbs of evenly distributed static weight when all 10 panels are closed and latched. This means you can stand on the cover to load your roof rack or place gear on top while parked.

Do not drive with cargo placed on top of the closed cover, as road vibrations and acceleration forces exceed the static weight rating. The cover is designed for bed protection and access, not as a cargo platform during driving.

Yes, the G2 preserves full access to all four factory bed tie-down points. The cover sits flush against your bed rails without blocking the tie-down cleats or D-rings.

You can use standard ratchet straps, bungee cords, and cargo nets with your Tacoma's tie-downs while the G2 is open. When the cover is closed, you can still attach external tie-down straps to the factory anchor points along the bed rails.

Both covers use the same 10-section aluminum folding design and clamp installation system. The MX4 upgrades to fiberglass-reinforced polymer panels that resist denting better than the G2's aluminum and feature a premium matte finish.

The G2 offers excellent value with aircraft-grade aluminum construction. The MX4 costs more but provides enhanced scratch resistance and a slightly more refined appearance. Performance and bed access are identical between both models.

Absolutely. Our BAKBox 2 toolbox is specifically designed to mount between your Tacoma's cab and the folded G2 cover. The BAKBox installs on the same rail system as your G2, creating integrated storage without sacrificing your tonneau cover.

The BAKBox doesn't interfere with the G2's folding operation. You can access both the toolbox and your full truck bed independently. Many Tacoma owners add the BAKBox later after purchasing their G2.

Minor adjustments are normal during installation as you fine-tune the clamp positions. Loosen the hex bolts on your rail clamps and slide them slightly forward or backward until the panels align evenly with your bed rails and tailgate.

Make sure all clamps are tightened evenly on both sides of your Tacoma bed. Uneven tightening can cause one side to sit higher than the other. Our installation video shows the complete adjustment process with closeup views of proper clamp positioning.
